The Haven of Hope Maternity Home located in Laurie, Mo provides housing and everything a pregnant mom needs to have a healthy baby. Haven of Hope received their license by the state this month to provide housing for young pregnant girls ages 11 to 21. One reason the center chose to get licensed is parents of pregnant teenagers have called the center asking to have their daughters placed in the home. Parents in rural areas want their daughters to have the training and help the pregnancy center can provide, but do not want them in the big city’s maternity homes. Haven of Hope is the only maternity home in the area that takes in teens.
In preparation for taking in younger residents, St. Pat’s Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the ladies at St. Pat’s, the Elks and churches throughout the community have helped remodel the building. The Knights of Columbus put new floors in two of the bedrooms. They put in an office so records could be kept confidential. They also donated money to assist in getting new training materials for the residents and those in our community. The training materials teach life skills, nutrition, budgeting, prenatal care, birthing, nursing, parenting and more. The new materials also have training for new fathers in caring for infants and young children. The ladies at St. Pat’s redecorated all the bed rooms. New blinds were donated by Budget Blinds. Ladies in the community have made baby blankets, hats and sweaters for babies.
The Haven of Hope Maternity Home has five bedrooms and can provide shelter for a house mother and eight residents. There are two fully equipped kitchens and four bathrooms in the home. There is a baby boutique where residents and those in the community may receive baby items, diapers, formula, furniture and maternity clothes. Rita Garcia is the Facility Manager and has the facility open to the community Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 4 PM for classes, baby items, free pregnancy tests and consultation. The maternity home is located off Elks Lane in Laurie, Mo. and is a part of the Pregnancy Help Center Serving the Lake of the Ozarks at 747 Business 5 in Camdenton, MO. The Pregnancy Help Center in Camdenton offers free pregnancy tests and ultra sounds along with classes. Last year the Pregnancy Help Centers helped over 900 moms, babies, dads and grandparents.
The Pregnancy Help Center and Haven of Hope are in need of volunteers. The Haven of Hope Maternity Home is in need of House Mothers who would enjoy working with young pregnant girls and teens. Both centers are in need of Diapers, Baby Wipes and Pac-N-Plays.
